Kim’s Beachside Retreat at Toowoon Bay NSW is now pet friendly
My husband and I just celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary at our most favourite place in the whole world… Kims.
We went there for our honeymoon in 1989 and have been going every year since. It is a great tradition, one I would highly recommend for anyone starting their journey through life together. It takes you back to that moment in time when everything is fresh and new about your relationship and you cannot help but feel enchanted as you stroll down the path under the giant Norfolk Island pines. There is so much wonderful history here and Kims is full of traditions having been around for well over 130 years.
We have seen many changes over the years at Kims and our hosts Diana and Peter Kershaw have always made us feel as though we are coming home from a long trip abroad. For me, from the very first time we descended the stairs into the tropical paradise, resplendent with peacocks and pheasants wandering through the beautiful gardens, (sadly now long gone) I felt this was where I belonged. It is truely a magical place and my husband and I never forget our anniversary because we enjoy it so much.
I am very happy that it has become Pooch friendly as there is nothing more joyous than seeing a happy dog running on the beach. Our host’s have always been dog lovers, so it is fitting that they now accommodate our canine companions.
Oh and did I mention the food… Legendary! There is something for everyone at Kims. Saturday nights for us start with the famous Red Dragon cocktail and delicious appetisers in the bar with lovely live music and a roaring wood burning fire. Then onto the sumptuous buffet with many traditional favourites and also new things to tempt the palette. There is definitely an art to managing to make it to the end of your meal without over-indulging, try as I might I always end up wishing there was room for more. If you overindulge and don’t have room for the cheese board, the lovely staff will kindly wrap up your selections for you to have back in your beautifully appointed bungalow. Perhaps after a nice spa bath and just one more glass of champagne…
With its relaxed atmosphere and all the charm of a bygone era, Kims will forever hold a special place in our hearts. I look forward to the next 30 or so wedding anniversaries with my darling husband. We always come away from Kims with a renewed sense of love and appreciation for each other and for all those whose paths we have crossed on our journey together.
